The Interview

During an alien invasion, what would be your weapon of choice?

Can I say homemade cookies? Maybe they’re just hungry, and we can have cookies and tea and talk things out.

You approach a wooden door at the end of a long, dark passage. It is big and heavy. A strange warmth radiates from the wrought-iron handle. You hear a strange noise rising through it. What's on the other side and what do you do?

I hope it’s a dragon! I want to befriend it and become a dragonrider.

Where’s my supersuit!?!?!?!?

Probably wherever I left my keys!

If you could bring any inanimate object to life, which would you and what would you do with your new buddy?

This is a hard one. Wraithwood features a magical door and flying chairs, but I think I would bring my old car, Clark, to life. He’s a reliable old man, even if parts fall off and he has to be jumpstarted from time to time. I’d like him to be able to tell me what part is broken today.

What weather is your writing? A dark and stormy night? A sunshiny day?

I always feel most inspired to write during a thunderstorm. The rain pouring down gets my creative juices flowing. But as for Wraithwood, I think the book feels more like a foggy morning right before dawn.

You have superpowers. What are they and what do you do with them?

Healing! There are so many illnesses I want to cure.

When cats take over the world, how do you plan to win their good graces?

I’ll ask my cat, Kookoo, to intercede for me. He’s ridiculously spoiled, so he should be able to put in a good word.

If this question were any question in the world, what question would you want it to be and how would you answer it?

Question: Should you be given a lifetime supply of blueberry coffee? Answer: Of course! I will write forever with my favorite creativity-powering beverage!
