Random Interview: Joanna Marie White

I'm bringing back my random intereview feature, asking awesome, random questions to awesome authors. My first vic ... err... guest is Joanna White!

Joanna White earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing for Entertainment at Full Sail University. The Valiant series is her first published work, which first started off being updated on a website called Wattpad. She lives in the country of Missouri with her husband, where she continues to work on her other upcoming books. Writing has been a passion since she was ten, when she wrote her first book. Ever since then, writing has become her life outside of her family, God, and being a nerd.

1. You have to trade places with one of your characters for a day. Which and why?

Honestly, if I had to choose which of my characters to trade places with for a day - ideally, I would pick none because let’s face it, I would never survive in the dangerous prison they’re all in, Zagerah. I’m inactive and have no idea how to fight or survive, so if I had to trade places with them, I would probably die pretty quickly. But if I had to choose, it would definitely be Averella, the main female protagonist. One, she’s the only woman, haha. Mostly it’s that we have a lot in common and it would be so cool to be with her, to get to see Jared - the main male protagonist of Hunter - in real life. Then again, it would probably be simpler for me if I just traded places with her mother or one of the other women in the village. That way I don’t have to face all the danger, but then, where’s the adventure?

2. On a scale of 1 to 10, what do you think your chances are of surviving the zombie invasion?

Hehe, zip! Well, if I have my husband with me, since he’s very intelligent, strong, knows how to fight and survive, I think I would be okay because he would protect me but on my own, no way!

3. Pirates, Ninjas, or Vikings? Choose carefully.

Carefully… Well, this is a toughie, especially for someone like me who doesn’t make decisions very well. Vikings are automatically out - sorry guys - because I love pirates and ninjas so the decision is between those two. I love pirates because they’re fun to write. They live how they want, when they want, and typically, pirates inspire those amazing, ruggedly handsome, rogue-like male characters that really stand out off the page and jump out at you. Ninjas are Japanese and everyone who knows me knows I love Japan. I prefer samurai, though, but ninjas are still pretty awesome. (In reference to my favorite anime ever, Fairy Tail, as Natsu would say “nin-nin”). I’m gonna have to go with pirates just because. If it was pirates versus samurai, well, then it would be samurai hands down.

4. Which bear is best?

Uh… polar bear? I think they’re the biggest and when it comes to creatures and animals, the bigger the better. Although, if I can choose like a fantasy bear, then I’m gonna go with a direbear. So epic.

5. I know exercise is good for me, but it is not entertaining. What methods do you suggest for making workouts more fun?

Listening to music or hey, here’s a good suggestion: no exercise at all!

6. If you were to plan a “literary crossover” where the casts/worlds of two books (or series of books) were to combine, which would you choose and how would it go down?

I have thought about this a lot - like way more than I should and have even structured an entire writing competition around this idea (in it, villains kidnapped people from other worlds which were the other fandoms), but if I had to cross over only two… Man, this is tough. How do I pick just two? Game of Thrones and Star Wars. Can you imagine Jon Snow wielding a lightsaber? Or Daenerys with a blaster? Or Chewbacca and Tormond and the Hound teaming up? I don’t know why Chewie seems to fit in with them pretty well, but they do. Then Lord Sidious and Cersei can be Emperor and Queen of Westeros and the galaxy together. Unless the Night King comes for them both. In which case that would be an awesome fight.

7. If you had the honor of naming something really big (a country, a spaceship, a planet) what would you want it to be and what would you name it?

Why go with something small like a country when I could name a planet? I would name a planet and I have no idea what I would name it. Probably after myself or my family somehow.  Raite - a combination of my mother’s maiden name because I’m close with her side of the family and my husband’s last name which is my last name now.

8. What method do you suggest for dealing with dragons?

Pet them. Always. Unless they’re bad. In which case, take pictures from afar.

9. If this question were any question in the world, what question would you want it to be and how would you answer it?

Okay, this is a really creative question. I would want this question to ask me: Why do I write? And the answer to that is that I write to inspire others. I want to be able to give readers and other fangirls like me (fanboys too) worlds that they can live in and delve into that are clean and lead them toward the truth that is Jesus Christ while still being able to enjoy really good, clean fantasy.

Hunter: A Valiant Novel

A reckless young woman named Averella does what no woman has ever done.

She disguises herself as a man and purposefully gets herself arrested and thrown into Zagerah. Her brother Gabriel was taken, and with his disease, he will not survive on his own. She has no idea what to expect inside the prison; all she knows is that once men get taken, they never come back.

The Hunters will find her.

Genetically altered to be faster and stronger than humans, the Hunters use their powers to find and kill every prisoner who enters Zagerah. The only ones who can defeat them, are in fact, themselves.

Jared is a Hunter. It’s all he’s known, all he remembers. He kills ruthlessly and without regret, one prisoner after another. When a new prisoner Dalex shows up, everything begins to change. Jared goes undercover to make Dalex and the other prisoners believe he is one of them, a prisoner himself.

No one knows the truth.

He will trick them.

Toy with them.

Then, he will kill them.
